The Grierson Awards 2019

The Grierson Awards commemorate the pioneering Scottish documentary filmmaker John Grierson (1898 – 1972), famous for Drifters and Night Mail and the man widely regarded as the father of the documentary.

 

Established in 1972, the Griersons are the biggest event in the UK documentary calendar. The awards recognise and celebrate documentaries from Britain and abroad that have made a significant contribution to the genre and that demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and overall excellence.

 

The Grierson Awards Ceremony will take place on the evening of 14 November 2019 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank, London.

In the last five years, homelessness in Britain has doubled. Now, self-shooting former soldier Ed Stafford will spend 60 winter days and nights on the streets to get a first-hand view of Britain-growing crisis. Over three episodes, the series reveals the human face of homelessness across Manchester, London and Glasgow, telling the stories of rough sleepers, how they ended up on the streets and how they survive.
