Channel 4 plates culinary competition “Beat the Chef”

British pubcaster Channel 4 has commissioned Twofour and Motion Content Group to produce the daytime culinary format Beat the Chef.

 

The tentatively titled 20 x 30-minute series will see amateur cooks competing in a head-to-head competition to out-cook four house chefs in an attempt to win a £10,000 (US$13,000) cash prize. Each round will see the home cooks battling to win over members of a tasting jury who will “blind taste” the dishes.

 

Professional chefs featured are Michelin-starred Mark Sargeant, celebrity chef Clodagh Mckenna, award-winning chef James Tanner and Roux Scholar Frederick Forster.

 

English chef and television presenter Andi Oliver will serve as host of the culinary competition.

 

Beat the Chef is executive produced by Twofour’s Dan Adamson and Motion Content’s Melanie Darlaston. It was commissioned by C4′s David Sayer, head of daytime, and Tim Hancock, commissioning editor of features and formats.

 

No air date for Beat the Chef has yet been set.
